Winger could swap Emirates Stadium for Reading.
Premier League basement boys Reading are interested in a January loan deal for Arsenal winger Andrei Arshavin, reports the Daily Mirror.
The 31-year-old has been linked with the Royals in the past and it is understood that Reading’s majority shareholder Anton Zingarevich is keen to bring his compatriot to the Madkeski Stadium on a temporary basis next month.
Fulham are also interested in a permanent deal for the Russia international but it is thought that the Cottagers will struggle to meet the player’s wage demands, thought to be around £90,000 per week.
Arshavin spent the second half of last season on loan at former club Zenit St Petersburg but he returned to Arsenal in the summer.
He is yet to start a Premier League game this season under Arsene Wenger, making just six appearances from the bench.
The stylish winger was linked with Barcelona after a stunning Euro 2008 but opted to join the Gunners. After initially impressing in North London, Arshavin’s inconsistency and lack of work rate began to frustrate Wenger, who is desperate to get the forward’s pay-packet off the Emirates wage bill in January.
It is understood that Wenger will accept a loan offer for Arshavin but the player will not stay in Berkshire if Brian McDermott’s side are relegated, with a return to Zenit his most likely option next summer.
