Arsenal could yet bring Rennes ace to Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are amongst clubs reportedly back in the race to sign Rennes central midfielder Yann M’Vila, according to French source FootMercato.
Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp seemingly believed that the deal to bring the France set – albeit one currently banned from the international setup – to Loftus Road was done, but Rennes manager Pierre Dreossi has different ideas.
The QPR offer is “not sufficient,” says Dreossi, and “other clubs have made better offers than QPR.”
One of those is thought to be from Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger finally making moves in the January transfer window as we enter the second half of the month.
M’Vila is a positionally excellent anchor midfielder, who keeps play ticking over with metronomic passing.
He keeps things simple, with his role clearly defined as one who breaks up opposition moves and begins those of his team, only occasionally bursting forward to contribute to attacks.
When he made his debut for France in 2010, he was hailed as the future of the team, but the reason there is not a clamour to sign him is because of repeated disciplinary issues – as mentioned above with the France squad.
It was this attitude that previously prevented Arsene Wenger bringing him to the Emirates Stadium, and also the main factor his price tag has dropped from upwards of £20 million.
Once tamed though, Yann M’Vila could prove a top asset for any club, and with a far more reasonable asking price of £7.5m he may well be worth the gamble for Arsene Wenger and his side.
