Arsene Wenger eyes cut price move for Serie A veteran.
Arsenal are reportedly amongst a number of teams competing for Cagliari midfielder Daniele Conti, who will be out of contract in the summer.
The 33 year-old remains one of the best players in Serie A in his position, and as a free agent will have plenty of suitors.
Conti plays a classic defensive midfield role for Cagliari – great positioning and tackling enable him to break up play, while calm distribution enables his team to build up attacks of their own.
Conti averages around 70 passes per game in Serie A with a 90% completion, which is a hefty total for a player not at one of Serie A’s more fashionable clubs.
His only true weakness is disciplinary – in 12 games this season, Conti has been booked 7 times and sent off once.
It is believed that Arsenal’s main competitors for his signature are AC Milan, but the Rossoneri could make an early bid for Conti with Nigel De Jong out of action for the rest of the season with a ruptured achilles tendon.
Having been at Cagliari since 1999, it will be a shock if Daniele Conti leaves Stadio Is Arenas, but one final adventure at the highest level could be enough to tempt him away.
