Arsenal hope to fix problem area with astute signing.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly looking at AS Saint-Etienne goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier as he looks to strengthen his back line.
Ruffier is a fine shot-stopper, regularly hailed as the best in his position in Ligue 1, and at 26 years of age still has his peak ahead of him.
In fifteen league games for his club this season, Ruffier has conceded just ten goals, and is a key reason Saint-Etienne are riding high in fourth in Ligue 1 at this stage of the campaign.
Arsenal’s need for a goalkeeper is well known – and has been ever since Jens Lehmann left the club.
As confident as Wojciech Szczesny is in his own ability, he hasn’t always backed it up with his performances, and mistakes have crept into his game.
Arsenal also have Vito Mannone and Lukasz Fabianski in their first team squad, and if Ruffier were to sign at least one would likely be sold.
The Gunners’ defence does not concede many goals, but those it lets in are frequently because of individual mistakes.
France star Ruffier could be the man to organise them.
