Gunners hope Champions League football may prove decisive in fight for Wales international.
Capital One Cup winners Swansea City are bracing themselves for an end-of-season raid for coveted defender Ashley Williams, according to reports in the Metro.
The imposing Wales international has enjoyed an eye-catching campaign at the heart of the Principality club’s back four, so much so that a whole host of ‘big-name’ Premier League clubs have reportedly been keeping close tabs on the player with a view to making a move this summer.
Among those suitors are believed to be Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, who are all in need of defensive reinforcements, although they will have to be able to come up with a sizeable amount of cash if they wish to be able to persuade the South Wales outfit to do business.
The 28-year-old is understood to be settled at the Liberty stadium, although Williams would also by all accounts like to test himself at the highest level, with Liverpool thought to have a slight advantage over their London rivals in the race to land the player’s signature because of head coach Brendan Rodgers having previously worked with the centre back during his time at the club.
However, the lure of Champions League football next season may also prove decisive and ultimately count against the Reds.
