Wenger plans to leave it late to bid for World Cup winner.
Arsenal will attempt to land David Villa on the last day of the transfer window in the hope of securing a cut-price deal for the Spaniard, reports The Sun.

The Gunners have been linked with Villa for the past fortnight but Barcelona bosses have repeatedly insisted that the striker will not leave the Nou Camp this month.
But the 31-year-old has made it clear that he is fed up sitting on the bench in Catalonia and the former Valencia man is understood to be keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger will not pay £15m for Villa but is willing to bid as high as £10m and hopes the late hour will persuaded the La Liga giants to sell.
After breaking his leg last season, Villa has struggled to force his way back into the Barcelona first team, with new boss Tito Vilanova favouring Alexis Sanchez, Cristian Tello and Pedro as support for the irrepressible Lionel Messi.
But Villa, who moved from the Mestalla for £33m in 2009, has still found the net on five occasions in the league for runaway leaders Barca, suggesting his goalscoring form has not deserted him.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is also keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid’s Adrian Lopez but favours a move for the more experienced Villa, who has won the World Cup and European Championship with Spain.
