Gunners rebuffed in attempt to bring Suarez to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal had a shock £30m bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez rejected last week, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Suarez has made no secret of his desire to leave Anfield this summer but the Reds have publicly insisted the Uruguayan is not for sale.
The Gunners reportedly contacted Liverpool officials directly to register their interest in buying the 26-year-old and are said to have lodged a formal bid – although neither club has so far commented on the discussions.
Liverpool have been privately braced for offers for Suarez since the end of last season but the club expected La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona to be front-runners for the Uruguay international.
The Merseyside outfit are aware that the Spanish duo are the only clubs with the potential to prompt Suarez into submitting a transfer request, something the former Ajax striker must do if he is to leave.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal up their offer for Suarez, with some reports suggesting the north London outfit only bid for the forward in an attempt to speed up their own negotiations with Real for Gonzalo Higuain.
