Gunners given boost in chase for Chilean star.
Arsenal have been handed a huge boost in their chase for Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez after Premier League rivals Liverpool have admitted defeat in their own pursuit of the star, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds had held talks with the World Cup star in the hope that he would be included as part of the deal that sees Luis Suarez head in the opposite direction.
However, the club have been unable to convince him to make the switch to Anfield after it emerged that he favoured a move to Arsenal instead.
Both clubs were able and willing to meet the player’s £30 million valuation, so it was down to the player’s personal preference over where he wanted to ply his trade beyond the summer.
Sanchez asked for time to consider his options and has now informed Liverpool officials that he has decided to link up with the Gunners as it is believed his family are more keen to live in the capital, which is a key factor in his decision to head to the Emirates Stadium.
It also means that the deal for Suarez is set to be straight cash with Barcelona having already agreed to pay the release clause in his contract of around £75 million.
