Gunners want Swede at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are preparing a bid for West Brom defender Jonas Olsson, fanatix has learned.
The 29-year-old has a £3m release-clause and was wanted by the Gunners’ North London rivals Tottenham in the summer.
Olsson has been in fine form for Steve Clarke’s overachieving side this term, starting 19 Premier League games and impressing in the heart of defence.
But it is believed that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants Olsson, who is left footed and can play at full-back, to help cover the club’s troublesome left-back spot for the remainder of the season.
Woeful Brazilian Andre Santos has not recovered from his Old Trafford nightmare and is likely to depart this month with a move to his homeland or back to Turkey looking likely.
Kieran Gibbs, meanwhile, has just signed a new long-term deal but has struggled with injuries this campaign. And all the other ones.
Swedish international Olsson was strongly linked with a move to White Hart Lane in August but Spurs look comfortable in central defence and have signed former Man United left-back Zeki Fryers, leaving the path clear for Olsson to join Arsenal.
