Gunners line-up move for Nou Camp forward.
Arsenal are exploring an audacious swoop for Barcelona striker David Villa.
But it is the possible capture of Villa that will excite Arsenal fans going into the festive period.
Arsene Wenger and his backroom team have discussed a January swoop for Villa, a forward the Gunners boss has admired for several years.
The Gunners would rather take the 31-year-old on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent deal depending on how he takes to the Premier League.
But if the price is right, Arsenal would stretch to a long term deal in January.

After a serious injury last season left him sidelined for 8 months, David Villa has found it hard to force his way back into the Barcelona first-team and sources in Spain indicate that the Catalans will allow the striker to depart in January.
The 31-year-old has never played outside his native Spain but a move to the Premier League is looking increasingly likely, with the Gunners the latest side to show an interest in Villa.
Arsenal have been linked with a number of strikers in the past week but their two top-targets did not seem particularly keen on a switch to the Emirates, with first Klaas-Jan Huntelaar agreeing a new deal with Schalke and then Fernando Llorente of Athletic Bilbao opening talks with Juventus.
Villa may be the wrong side of 30 but the striker would still be a fantastic addition at the Emirates Stadium squad. The Spain international has made just six starts at the Nou Camp so far this term – with the likes of Pedro, Christian Tello and Alexis Sanchez competing for a place alongside Lionel Messi – but has still found the net five times.
With service from the talented triumvirate of Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta, Villa could flourish at the Emirates and it shouldn’t break the bank to bring him to North London.
