Arsene Wenger is keen to strengthen his attack in January…
Arsenal will bid £27m for Real Madrid’s French forward Karim Benzema when the transfer window reopens in January, reports The Daily Mirror.
Boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign another striker, with the injured Lukas Podolski the only recognised backup option for Olivier Giroud.
The French forward has started the season well, but the Gunners’ title ambitions could collapse should Giroud pick up an injury.
Following the sale of Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli in the summer, Benzema is the only established, senior striker at Real Madrid, but he has not played at his potent best this term.
Benzema has still bagged eight goals in 15 appearances so far, but Real Madrid may be willing to sell him if they can bring in Liverpool’s Luis Suarez as a replacement. Suarez has bagged eight goals already since his return from suspension, but is still keen to leave the Anfield side for Champions League football.
Benzema would be the second world-renowned star to join Arsenal from Real Madrid in a matter of months, following German playmaker Mesut Ozil’s £42m arrrival in the summer. The 25-year-old has done fantastically at the Emirates, and the signing of Benzema would no doubt inject a similar amount of positivity amongst fans as the Ozil deal did.
Benzema is extremely powerful, and possesses the ability to finish with both feet from distance. While he isn’t the fastest, he has the technical attributes to hold up the football, and would suit spearheading Arsene Wenger’s current 4-3-3 formation.
