Arsenal look to bring Champions League standout performer to Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal could make a move to sign Celtic star Victor Wanyama, according to the Daily Mail.
The Gunners have an urgent need to strengthen in defensive midfield – they were overrun in the middle of the park by Chelsea in the first half of their 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge yesterday – and Wanyama’s performances make him an obvious candidate.
Wanyama has shone for Celtic this season, particularly in the UEFA Champions League, and helped the Glasgow club to the knockout stages of the competition – even scoring in a 2-1 defeat of FC Barcelona at Parkhead.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon views his 21 year-old Kenya international as nearly priceless – but when pressed on how much Celtic would want for Wanyama, he said, “£25 million.”
“Wanyama has the world at his feet.
“But his feet are here and they won’t be going anywhere unless we say so.”
Having joined Celtic in July 2011 for just £900,000, it is safe to say that Wanyama’s price tag has risen astronomically in his short time in Scotland.
With the Kenyan refusing to extend his deal with the Hoops though, Celtic may soon be forced to negotiate with larger clubs, and it is unlikely that the full £25m will be paid when he eventually leaves.
