Gunners closing in on Championship starlet.
Premier League giants Arsenal are closing in on a deal for Nottingham Forest youngster Jamaal Lascelles, fanatix has learnt.
The 19-year-old centre-half was linked with a move to the Gunners last January but Forest rejected a £5m Arsenal bid for the England under-19 international.
Arsenal’s North London rivals Tottenham, as well as Liverpool, have since been credited with an interest in Lascelles but it is understood the Gunners are now close to getting their man.
The young defender, who can play centrally or at right-back, has only made one league appearance for Forest this season but is rated as one of the most promising youngsters outside the top-flight.
Lascelles impressed last season on loan at League Two Stevenage but injury has hampered his chances in the Forest first-team this term.
It is understood that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger remains keen to add the starlet to his squad and is ready to bid around £6m for Lascelles before the end of the month, an offer Forest will likely accept.
The Frenhcman stressed last month that he is keen to build a squad based on British talent at the Emirates and the Gunners back-line already boasts young talents in the form of Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson.
Lascelles is thought to be keen to move to the Premier League outfit, having spent his entire career with the City Ground club.
