Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has confirmed that Arsene Wenger will sign a new contract to stay at Emirates Stadium beyond this summer – but says the club are waiting for the appropriate time to announce it.
“Arsene will be extending with us and at the right time we will make that announcement,” said Gazidis at the press conference announcing Puma’s record kit sponsorship.
“We have always supported Arsene, the board and Stan Kroenke have always been completely behind him. Arsene has always been committed to the club, we are comfortable in that position and relaxed.”
Wenger has been at Arsenal since August 1996, taking charge of 660 Premier League matches in that time – which is only bettered by Sir Alex Ferguson’s 810 at Manchester United.
The Gunners boss has helped the club maintain competitiveness while moving into a new stadium, despite being somewhat hamstrung financially, and now has the chance to help the north London club enter a new financially rich era.
