French boss thinks Diego Costa would break the bank…

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has played down reports his side could sign Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa, claiming he would likely cost as much as £145m, the Mirror reports.
Arsenal are desperate for striker reinforcements, with Nicklas Bendtner out for two months and current first-choice forward Olivier Giroud suffering with niggling ankle problems.
Although Diego Costa has a reported £32m release clause, the Gunners’ French boss clearly believes this doesn’t exist, and reckons his side would have to break the world transfer record to sign the powerful forward.
When asked about his interest in the striker who’s scored a whopping 23 goals in all competitions so far this term, Wenger scoffed, “What, £145m?!”
Instead, it seems more likely that the table topping side will move for a shorter term forward solution, possibly on a loan deal.
“Is it for short term or a stop-gap? Ideally, you want a longer solution. But a longer solution looks much more difficult to find in January than a short gap,” Wenger continued.
“You can find a solution somewhere – a club that has financial trouble and wants to get rid of a big contract for five or six months.”
