Wenger hopes that Ferguson will allow winger to make Emirates Stadium switch.
Arsene Wenger wants Sir Alex Ferguson to return his Robin van Persie “favour” – by agreeing to sell him Nani in the January window.
Arsenal boss Wenger has targeted Manchester United’s out-of-favour winger as he looks to strengthen his squad next month.
United manager Ferguson made a personal call to Wenger last summer and persuaded him to sell van Persie for £24m even though he was going to a direct rival.
And now Wenger is ready to call in the favour by asking him to let Nani join Arsenal as the Portuguese is on his way out after reaching a contract stalemate at United.

Talk about wishful thinking…
If this source is correct, then Arsene Wenger has had more than his fair share of Christmas spirit(s).
Sir Alex Ferguson is not a man who believes in doing a Premier League rival a “favour”, particularly one with whom he has had a bitter 16-year rivalry.
If the Scot does agree to sell Nani to Arsenal, it will be because he believes it is a good deal for United, not because he wants to wants to recompense Wenger following Robin van Persie’s move from Arsenal to Old Trafford in the summer.
That said, Nani would be a good fit for the Gunners. Wenger may appear to have a surplus of wingers but there are indications that the Frenchman is willing to bow to Theo Walcott’s demands to play up-front, while Gervinho is set for a month at the African Cup of Nations and Andrei Arshavin will be sold in January.
Nani, 25, has frustrated Ferguson with his inconsistency but he remains supremely talented and if Wenger can sign the Portugual international, he will have a potential match-winner on his hands.
With Nani refusing to sign a new deal at Old Trafford and Antonio Valencia continuing to excel, this could ultimately be a deal that suits all parties.
But don’t think that Fergie’s gone soft if he sanctions it. The experienced boss knows exactly what he’s doing.
