Wenger expected Guardiola to secure Premier League deal.
Arsene Wenger has revealed that Pep Guardiola told him ‘several times’ he wanted his next job to be in England.
It was announced on Wednesday that former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola would take over Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich when current head-coach Jupp Heyneckes retires in the summer.
But the 41-year-old Spaniard had been frequently linked with a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City all believed to be interested in his services.
And Wenger has reaveled that he expected Guardiola, who is Barcelona’s most successful ever manager, to move to England after his year-long sabbatical in New York was over.
“I asked several times [about coaching in the Premier League] and he told me several times that he would like to come to England, so I’m a little surprised that he has decided to go to Germany,” the Frenchman told Spanish publication Sport.
“Bayern are very interesting and also the German league, so his decision is understandable.”
Chelsea vs Arsenal tickets are now on sale for the London derby at Stamford Bridge on January 20th.
