Gunners on verge of sealing £8m move for defensive midfielder.
Arsenal are hoping to agree an £8 million deal to sign up-and-coming Guingamp midfield player Gilbert Imbula, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The North Londoners have had a quiet January transfer window to date, but manager Arsene Wenger is under increasing pressure from the club’s long-suffering supporters to spend big in order to strengthen the Gunner’s paper-thin squad.
And, Wenger and Co have already been linked with a number of big-name players from across the Continent, but Imbula’s name is not one the fans will have heard of before, although both Premier League rivals Chelsea and Ligue1 giants Olympique Lyonnais are also said to be interested in signing the young Frenchman.
Imbula came to the attentions of the French public when he became the youngest ever player to feature in a Ligue 2 fixture for his club at the tender age of 17 years, one month and four days.
However, it is believed that his employers would prefer to sell the 20-year-old to a team from the English top flight so as to make a greater profit from him, which leaves the London rivals battling it out to secure the defensive midfield player’s signature this month.
