London clubs now favourites to sign Mandzukic..
It seems as though Arsenal and Chelsea were given a false alarm in their pursuit of Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic after the German media suggested that the Croat was on his way back to his former club Wolfsburg this summer.
It turns out that Wolfsburg have not yet made an attempt to sign Mandzukic back from Bayern, which means that the Blues and the Gunners are still firmly in contention to sign the target, according to the Daily Express.
Some reports also suggest that Wolfsburg may have backed out of Mandzukic’s chase after being offered hope by Chelsea to sign 21-year old Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, but the German club’s chief Klaus Allofs has denied any such rumours.
“I think our board of directors have already said what needs to be said about it: we have not had any contact with the player [Mandzukic],” Allofs said.
If indeed the Lukaku to Wolfsburg rumours are true, then the Blues could well be the favourites in landing Mandzukic, who is a much wanted man at Stamford Bridge.
