Malaga star on radar at both Stamford Bridge and Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly looking at signing Malaga CF star Ignacio Camacho, but it is the West London club who hold the upper hand in the chase to land the 22 year-old midfielder.
That is because Rafa Benitez’s side is willing to enter the market earlier than the Gunners to land their man.
Chelsea are expected to invest in the market for a central midfielder in the January transfer window to compensate for the injury suffered by Oriol Romeu.
“The club is working and always looking for good players, so we’ll see if there are any surprises,” smiled Benitez when asked about the possibility of recruitment in the new year.
With Malaga having progressed to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League, Camacho would be cup tied for selection in Europe, but that is less of a concern for Chelsea, as they will feel that the UEFA Europa League should not be beyond their current group of players.
Frank Lampard is easing his way back to fitness, and will be motivated by the prospect of one final hurrah at Chelsea having been told he can leave the club. He will likely play alongside John Obi Mikel in the holding position until the summer.
As for Arsenal, Camacho would be an excellent signing given how well he has played this season, but his cup tied status means that a summer move would be much more likely.
Camacho is a destroyer in midfield, brilliant at breaking up play and setting more creative players away with the ball.
He is also great in the air, and invaluable at both defensive and offensive set pieces.
Given Malaga’s recent financial troubles, it will be interesting to see how much they resist January bids.
That could decide which of Arsenal or Chelsea Ignacio Camacho moves to – and when.
