Premier League rivals will fight for Karim Benzema’s signature…
Arsenal and Chelsea will compete for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema when the transfer window reopens in January, reports the Mirror.
The 25-year-old Frenchman could be available for just £17m, which has alerted a whole host of Premier League giants.
Following the sale of Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli in the summer, Benzema is the only recognised striker at the Spanish giants, but has not played well so far this season.
Benzema has bagged four goals in ten appearances, and Real Madrid are eager to sell him and bring in Liverpool’s Luis Suarez at the nearest possible opportunity. Suarez has bagged three goals already since his return from suspension, but is still keen to leave the Anfield side for Champions League football.
A bid of £50m should tempt the Reds to sell the Uruguayan.
Arsenal have only Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski as recognised forward options, and publicly chased a star striking signing for the entire summer. Chelsea did manage to bring in Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi Makhachkala, but the 32-year-old Cameroonian is yet to score for the Blues.
After loaning out in form Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea have only the injured Fernando Torres and the out of form Demba Ba to compete with Eto’o for the striker spot.
