Gunners eyeing dramatic deal for benched Real star.
Premier League giants Arsenal are among the clubs interested in unhappy Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas, fanatix has learnt.
Casillas is understood to be considering his future at the Santiago Bernebeu after being dropped by coach Jose Mourinho for Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Malaga, with 25-year-old understudy Antonio Adan stepping into the breach.
The 31-year-old, who has made over 500 appearances for Los Blancos and won the two European Championships and a World Cup with Spain, has vowed to prove his manager wrong.
“I’m not used to being a backup, but above all I am a team player. The thing to do is to keep training and try to regain my place,” Casillas told La Sexta television.
“Mourinho didn’t say anything during the week, but we abide by the decision of the coach. I am feeling good, but the one who decides is the coach and I have to keep training to regain his confidence. We have a healthy competition for all the places.”
However, a furious Casillas is thought to be willing to leave the club in January if Mourinho remains at the helm.
A number of clubs across Europe are said to be monitoring the situation, with Arsenal, Inter Milan and PSG all thought to be willing to bid for Casillas in January if his position in Madrid becomes untenable.
Mourinho, whose champions are 16 points behind leaders Barcelona, has insisted that he was right to drop Casillas.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is known to be eyeing a new goalkeeper in January, after losing faith with current number one Wojciech Szczesny.
The Emirates Stadium outfit have also been linked with Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet.
