Club captain Thomas Vermaelen will demand a move away from the Emirates come the end of the season…
Arsenal skipper Thomas Vermaelen will definitely be leaving the club at the end of the season, reports the Metro.
The Belgian centre-back has barely got a look in this season, having to play second fiddle to Arsene Wenger’s first-choice pairing of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker for almost the entire season.
The 28-year-old was once rated as one of the country’s finest centre-halves, but has been restricted to a measly three starts this season as a result of Koscielny and Mertesacker’s impressive form.
Vermaelen’s agent Alex Kroes told Le10 Sport: “Thomas has told Wenger that he wants to leave Arsenal this summer.”
There were rumours the defender had agreed to join Napoli already, but these reports have been dismissed by Kroes in an Italian publication.
Arsenal will definitely need to replace Vermaelen in the summer, and the rumour monger will no doubt start churning as the season draws to its close as to which player will be arriving at the Emirates in his place.
