After a heavy defeat to City maybe the manager will look at other alternatives.
Something strange is going on at Manchester United as new manager David Moyes continues to persist with attacking midfielders who are simply under-performing.
Antonio Valencia, Nani and Ashley Young have all been used on the wing for United with little success – particularly the Englishman who looked completely out of sorts during the 4-1 demolition by Manchester City on Sunday.
The persistence with these clearly failing formula is made even more bizarre when both Shinji Kagawa and Wilfried Zaha are yet to make a Premier League appearance.
The Japan international has been completely underused since making the transfer from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2012 and has barely been given a chance, despite having helped the German club to back-to-back Bundesliga titles.
Moyes has not fielded the 24-year-old so far in the league and Kagawa has been given one run-out in the Champions League – when the Red Devils finished 4-2 winners.
Zaha meanwhile waits patiently on the sidelines as well, watching on after an impressive pre-season has yet to be rewarded with a start in the 2013/14 season.
As Young and Valencia continue to waste chances the England international must be starting to wonder what has to happen to get a chance.
As much as Jose Mourinho’s refusal to field Juan Mata at Chelsea is confusing, these decisions by Moyes are equally so – especially when the Blues’ replacements are actually performing, with Oscar finding the net consistently.
With just seven points from five matches so far this term, Moyes has little to lose in fielding the forgotten stars of Old Trafford.
