Melbourne and Geelong are continuing to negotiate a suitable deal that would see key forward Mitch Clark join the Cats for the 2015 season.
The 26-year-old has nominated Geelong as his preferred destination after deciding to make an AFL comeback having retired from the game in April due to a battle with depression.
Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney told SEN Radio that the Demons were realistic about Clark’s value due to his lack of football over the past few seasons.
“He’s a very good player and arguably our best player during the time that he played for us,” Mahoney said.
“We also both understand the risks attached to it as he’s only played 15 games in three years.
“So, I think at the moment we’re around about the same page but what that means in terms of picks and players that will work itself out in the next couple of days.”
