Essendon is one of two clubs reportedly interested in the services of 2008 Brownlow Medallist Adam Cooney.
The 29-year-old has one year left on his contract at the Western Bulldogs but is reportedly on the hunt for fresh start.
Cooney becomes a free agent at the end of next season but is believed to have attracted interest from Essendon and North Melbourne.
The midfielder has played 219 games in eleven seasons with the Bulldogs despite a number of injury setbacks.
In 2011 and 2012 he suffered degenerative knee issues, but has since recovered to play 37 games in the past two seasons.
The Bombers are also in the hunt for a ruckman and have been linked with Jonathan Giles, Daniel Gorringe and Luke Lowden over the past few days.
