AC Milan coach Clarence Seedorf prepares for his first Champions League game in charge of the Rossoneri, with Atletico Madrid hoping to ruin the Dutchman’s big night.

Having won the Champions League with three different clubs during his glittering playing career, Seedorf undoubtedly has a special relationship with the tournament.

The 37-year-old has insisted that his Milan side will play more progressive and attacking football in order to reach the pinnacle of European football again, but it remains to be seen how they cope with the more immediate threat posed by their Spanish rivals.

Diego Simeone and his players have remained respectful throughout the build-up, but they will be fully aware that they will not be facing one of the better Milan teams that has graced this competition in the past.

As a result, they will feel that they have the opportunity to produce somewhat of a shock, starting with the first leg at San Siro where they will be expected to put on early pressure.

Seedorf has various injury concerns and suspensions to deal with, which will ultimately result in him being forced to field Michael Essien in the two-man defensive midfield screen, while Adel Taarabt and Mario Balotelli will be expected to inspire them going forward.

For the visitors, their threats run through the entire team, and despite the absence of duo Filipe Luis and Tiago, they have a number of individuals capable of causing the home side problems.

Diego Costa has been particularly pinpointed by the Italian media in the lead up to the game, and it remains to be seen whether or not he can exploit what has been a weak Milan defence so far this season.

It promises to be an intriguing battle between two great clubs, with Milan hoping to send a clear signal to the rest of Europe that they are on the path to returning to the top of European football, while Atleti will be determined to prove their credentials on the biggest of European stages.
