Reports over the weekend claimed the 22-year-old was set to join his boyhood heroes Milan in a £17m deal but Man City assistant manager David Platt insisted on Monday morning that Balotelli was still a City player.
The Italy international has made just seven Premier League appearances for the Champions this season and was involved in a training ground altercation with boss Roberto Mancini earlier this month.
Despite insisting Balotelli would remain at Eastlands, Mancini appears to have finally run out of patience with the maverick forward, who will return to the city where he spent four years with Milan’s fierce rivals Internazionale.
Balotelli has scored 30 goals in 75 appearances in all competitions for the Citizens but has been plagued by accusations of laziness and eccentricity.
The scrap with Mancini, who signed Balotelli for both Inter and City, was the latest in a serious of bizarre incidents involving the young forward.
Indeed, Mancini vowed that his compatriot would never play for City again after he was sent off in a defeat at Arsenal in April last year.
AC Milan are in desperate need of a new striker, having seen Brazilian Pato sign for Corinthians this month.
Former Man City man Robinho, meanwhile, could also leave the Rossoneri to return to Brazil in the next few days.
