Reds had been interested in central defender for some time.
Liverpool have missed out on signing Lille defender Aurelien Chedjou after the Cameroonian opted to join Turkish giants Galatasaray for £6 million instead this summer, reports the Daily Star.
Reds head coach Brendan Rodgers had reportedly been keeping a close eye on the highly rated centre back for some time now with a view to possibly bringing the player to Anfield next season as a replacement for the recently retired veteran Jamie Carragher, who opted to finally hang up his boots at the end of the previous campaign.
However, the 27-year-old has decided to move to the Turkish champions instead after having played 205 games in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side across a six-year period, including 154 league contests.
And that means that Rodgers will now have to look elsewhere for some more defensive reinforcements this summer, especially with there also being doubts over the futures of both current first-choice centre-backs Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger.
