McLaren encouraged by Australian GP result

Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button put in impressive performances at the Australian Grand Prix to allay fears that their car would not be competitive this season.

The new McLaren had serious issues during testing, but with Hamilton finishing second, and Button unlucky to only finish sixth, it would seem that the two British drivers will be able to fight for the Championship after all.

Hamilton had a fairly straight forward race to finish second. Button, however, had a poor start and a drive through penalty to contend with. Nevertheless, McLaren will be delighted with the results, although there is clearly a long way to go to catch Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull.
