Klitschko KOs Chambers to set up Haye clash

Wladimir Klitschko defeated American challenger "Fast" Eddie Chambers on Saturday to retain both his WBO and IBF Championship Belts, and in truth the contest was a formality for the younger Klitschko brother. A disappointing fight had Chambers evading Klitschko's every move, and only a huge left hook in the last fifteen seconds of the final round from the Ukrainian ensured the bout did not go to a decision. Klitschko wants to fight Haye next, and should there be no improvement between now and then, Haye ought to have a huge chance.

When Haye took on the huge Nikolai Valuev in November for the WBA Belt, he fought a brilliant tactical match. Valuev is a slow and lumbering seven foot monster, but inevitably with such huge weight behind his punches he presents a real danger. Haye tired him out with the strategy of dancing around the ring, with Valuev struggling to change direction quickly, and darted in with swift punches when he could. David Haye is considered the fastest puncher in the heavyweight division, and Wladimir Klitschko will have to be on top of his game to cope. As would Haye of course.

This is all hypothetical however, for Haye has a mandatory defence of his WBA title against American John Ruiz. Ruiz has himself held the WBA belt on two occasions, and could prove a difficult opponent, but given that he lost to Valuev twice (albeit in controversial circumstances each time), Haye would be expected to retain his crown and face one of the Klitschko brothers.

David Haye vs. John Ruiz takes place at Manchester's MEN Arena on April 3rd, and now the Hayemaker has recovered from his hand injury he is in great shape to tackle Ruiz!
