Isle of Wight Festival looks at increase in size

Isle of Wight Festival organisers are attempting to increase capacity by 20,000 revellers. The four-day event is licensed for 70,000 people but promoters want to increase that to 90,000 for this years' 10th anniversary of the new incarnation of the festival.
An application has been submitted by promoters 'Solo' to the Isle of Wight Council under the Isle of Wight Act, the legislation which controls major events on the Island. The organisers are also seeking to increase space for backstage crew and staff at Seaclose Park, Newport.
The major stumbling block to the increase would be the residents of Newport, many of whom flee the island during the weekend of the festival. The cabinet member responsible for community safety, Cllr Barry Abraham, claims that there will be a full public consultation once a licensing application has been submitted, which must be done before Monday 12th April.
Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters and Kasabian are confirmed as the headliners to this years festival. Previous headliners since the festival was re-launched include The Police and David Bowie.
