Current Champions League holders Inter Milan face the German side Schalke 04 in Tuesday's other quarter-final game.

Both sides have had transitional seasons, with Inter sacking Rafael Benitez and replacing him with ex-AC Milan gaffer Leonardo and Schalke replacing Felix Magath with Ralf Rangnick.

Domestically both sides haven't faired particularly well either. Inter lost the Milan derby 3-0 on Saturday and Schalke's season has been a bit of a shambles, with the team currently sat in 11th place and gaining half the points of league leaders Borussia Dortmund. Schalke's game on Friday was also called off in the 88th minute when the referee was hit by a cup full of beer. Schalke were 2-0 up against St. Pauli.

Schalke's progress to the quarter-finals comes as a surprise given their domestic form, but with an attacking line-up that includes Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Jefferson Farfan, Angelos Charisteas and Raul, they've got the experience in the squad.

Inter Milan will not emulate their success last season, when Jose Mourinho led them to a famous treble winning season. But the manner in which they beat Bayern Munich to progress to the quater-finals shouldn't be underestimated. After losing the home leg 1-0, Inter then fell further behind in the second leg before producing an astonishing combeack to win 3-2 on the night and go through on away goals.

Whoever comes out victorious in this tie will face either Chelsea or Manchester United.
