Hull City sack Phil Brown

Hull City say Phil Brown has been "relieved of managerial duties" and placed on gardening leave. The Tigers have lost their last four Premier League matches, and it is only equally bad results from their rivals that has seen little recent attention drawn to the manager's position. That changed today. Like many sides in this year's Premier League, Hull's season has been an inconsistent one, and they only achieved their first Premier League victory in October. In this period Brown's position was seemingly under threat, but after a change of chairman in November, Brown rejuvenated the side with wins over Stoke and Everton and the spotlight moved elsewhere.

The Tigers' form has since plummeted, and this weekend's visit to fellow-strugglers Portsmouth will be the 'relegation six-pointer' customary at this stage of the season. In fact, the club have won a mere six of their last 51 league games, which makes chairman Adam Pearson seem unusually patient for a man in his position. The club statement indicates that "retention of Premier League status is paramount and the board believes that a change in managerial direction is the correct option at this time", but a new coach before Saturday's trip to Fratton Park is not expected. Brian Horton and Steve Parkin will take the reigns for the crucial game, for which tickets are available to compare and buy on Tixdaq.com now.
