Fabio Capello considers John Terry for captain role
By Warren Moore, on 15th March 2011, 10:17 UTC
John Terry may be reinstated as England captain as boss Fabio Capello is considering relieving injured Rio Ferdinand of the role.
Terry was removed as captain last year and Ferdinand given the role, but due to injuries, Ferdinand has been absent from many games and will also miss the Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales on 26 March.
Capello wants to avoid the captain's armband being passed around like it was in February's friendly against Denmark.
"I was really upset about what happened in Denmark, when I saw the players saying 'who is the captain?'," he said.
"After one year of punishment, it was not the best moment for John Terry to see this. For that reason I need to make a decision - and it will be a permanent decision, not just one game."
With vice-captain Steven Gerrard also out of the Wales game with a hernia injury, Capello is expected to formally announce the decision before the encounter at the Millennium Stadium.
Football tickets are available now.
