Batman Live Formula One-inspired Batmobile revealed
By Rupert Davies, on 15th June 2011, 15:23 UTC
The Batmobile that will feature in the upcoming Batman Live - World Arena Tour has been unveiled.
The Batmobile was created for the live show by Professor Gordon Murray, a Formula One car designer. He said he was given full rein to design the superhero's vehicle, and invented a new type of carbon fibre, virtual wheels, and a hydrogen fuel cell to power the car. In his words, he "let the fantasy loose." When designing the car, he was influenced by both his career and childhood memories of Batman comics: "I drew really on my early memories of Batman comics from when I was a kid but also Formula One technology. From a materials point of view and an aerodynamic shape it's pretty real, or could be real in, say, 20 years time."
Batman Live is an arena show, featuring a cast of 43, that tells of Batman's quest to bring justice to Gotham, with help from his partner Robin. Within the show there will be illusions, acrobatics, stage flights and dramatic professional stunts. However, such is the level of secrecy surrounding the show that even Professor Murray doesn't know how the Batmobile will move onstage. The tour will begin on June 24th at Manchester's MEN Arena.
Batman Live tickets are now available for the incredible arena tour.
