Andy Murray victory sees ticket prices soar

Yesterday, Andy Murray defeated Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-5, 6-3, 6-2 in his quarter-final match at this year's Wimbledon tennis championships.

Following Murray's triumph, the demand for tickets to this year's final match has rocketed and tickets are now being listed for as much as £40,000 per pair.

Andy Murray's performances over the last two months have triggered some significant changes on the prices of tickets listed on a number of the online ticket exchanges.

Tickets to see the 2009 Wimbledon Championship final were being listed for as little as £430 after Murray was defeated by Fernando Gonzalez in the 2009 French Open. The lowest ticket price before Andy Murray's French Open exit was £2,075. However, following Andy Murray's return to form at this year's Queen's Championships, ticket prices gradually increased - the lowest price for Wimbledon final tickets was £2,200 after Andy Murray claimed the 2009 Queen's title. Ticket prices have increased over the course of this year's tournament and the lowest current price available is now £4,844.

Since Andy Murray's first round victory at the 2009 Wimbledon Championships, the highest ticket prices have remained above £10,000. It was not until after Murray's victory against Juan Carlos Ferrero that ticket prices reached £20,000.

Only time will tell whether Andy Murray will come through his semi final and reach the 2009 Wimbledon Final, but it is clear that his fans believe he will.
